Sacrilage!

Madlands 02-23-2015 03:54 PM

I have the say the pottery barn bottle opener cracked me up a bit. I've got the same one in my pool room. Just never considered it on my Rover.

What I'm really wondering though is why you went with jeep bumpers? Were they a lot cheaper?

all4mee 02-23-2015 04:41 PM

$600 for front and rear. Plus the flat bar rover bumper didn't look that good to me

ralphobell 02-23-2015 04:52 PM

What mods did you have to due to the bumpers to make them bolt up?

swak6287 02-23-2015 05:27 PM

I like that. What jeep was it out off? XJ? Got a link. I want it.

The front was just some brackets. I'm going to take them off in a couple of weeks when it warms up some and I can post pictures of them.

I had to cut the hitch off the bumper and made a hole for the factory hitch. The DII rear frame looks real thin. So now the bumper and factory hitch are welded and one piece.

swak6287 02-24-2015 09:16 AM

What jeep model are those bumpers? JK? XJ?

all4mee 02-24-2015 10:41 AM

07-14 Jeep JK Wrangler Rock Guard Front Bumper+Winch Ready Black XRC KO Off Road

this is from the ebay listing for the front $297 + free shipping

Black Jeep Wrangler Rear Bumper KO Off Road Rock Crawler D Rings Steel JK Tow $305 + free shipping

Great idea, why sacrilege??.....it would be alright if the manufacturer would said "Land Rover" and charge 3 times more. My opinion....looks like it was build for the Disco

ralphobell 02-24-2015 07:10 PM

Anytime you put a jeep product on a Land Rover it is Sacrilege! It would be like putting parts off a mustang onto a Jaguar. Common man! If you want a jeep get a jeep. Seriously that is all in jest. Land Rover started from a jeep parts originally anyway.

swak6287 02-24-2015 07:43 PM

I will rock that. It is on my list. :)

swak6287 02-24-2015 07:57 PM

Do you know if the D2 and the D1 bumper placement (on the frame) are the same, or are they more spaced apart? I have a 96

acamato 02-24-2015 09:11 PM

Can you post a photo from the side? How is the angle of approach?

swak6287 02-24-2015 09:21 PM

You got all of us all excited now, we have an option bumper. Yah, definitely want to see the mods on the brackets for the front bumper.

Sir Axlerod 02-24-2015 10:14 PM

Debated JK lift parts, we throw stock stuff away.. til I saw we weighed almost 2000# more...

Pregnant arse beaches... sheesh!

That's funny.😀 if you notice I didn't put in my post " what do you think". I sold my 4-door Jeep Rubicon with the extra money from the sale I bought the Rover. So it was a sale one get one Free.
But I get this all the time when I put Porsche parts on my Audi. Or M-stuff on my wife's BMW.

I will try today. The bumper is about a 1/2 to 1 in higher then the tube cross bar on the bumper from the factory.
If I do it again I would like the raise it another 1 to 2 in. It didn't do it this time because I didnt have my winch yet.

My buddy has a DI RTE bumper on his DII. I'll check and see if it just bolted on

The reason I started looking was. The Aftermarket bumpers were priced so high. I have seen first hand how some made for the DII bumpers looked on the trucks and the fitment didn't look good. I didn't want to modify a $1000-$2000 bumper to make it look right.

How do you open your cold drinks on the trail?😁

D1 bumper on DII

I put a factory DI bumper on my 2000 DII. I had to remove the crush cans and then it went right on. Nobody even notices unless I tell them or they are familiar with Discoveries. However I have not gotten into the wireing yet to see if I can make the lights on the D1 bumper work. I've heard that is a problem even thought I don't see why it should be.

swak6287 02-25-2015 09:45 AM

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I need to order this

Jnj 02-25-2015 11:24 AM

Any cutting or welding required to make that front bumper work or is it all just bolt on? That looks great and I hate aftermarket bumpers.

mattmo78 02-25-2015 12:18 PM

SUB-SCRIBED!!!!

I want, I want, I want!!! :D

When you get the time, can we get a straight on shot of the front? I'm also curious as to what will need to be done/trimmed when a winch is installed. I really like the way the rear bumper looks too.

Here is one the Green one has yellow springs but stock tires, I'm not sure of how much lift. My truck has 2in spring spacers and 33's

The center of the middle on the very bottom is 19in to the ground. The round factory brace bar is 17in.

The green DII. Center on the bumper was 14 in and the round brace was 15.5 to the ground.

Here is a couple of pics of what I trimmed on the front bumper, but after some refitting, it didn't have to be trimmed. So in hind site if I did it again it wouldn't be cut. The front is just brackets.

I have two Winches I'm waiting on. I haven't cut anything as of yet. I Will post pictures when one comes in.

ArmyRover 02-25-2015 03:28 PM

Is that your finished bumper mount?

swak6287 02-25-2015 03:29 PM

You weld a bracket to the bumper, or it came as is?

all4mee 02-25-2015 03:30 PM

This is still a work in progress after I get the winch I might have to make different brackets. Depending on how the winch sits in. My plan is to have the winch behind the grille as much as possible, with out trimming

No the brackets bolt to the frame and to the bumper. So if I take the bumper off right now. It's just the four bolts 2 on each side just like the factory. Then there are four bolts on each side holding the brackets to the bumper

ArmyRover 02-25-2015 03:34 PM

I wouldn't trust your current set up for recovery.

My 2 cents and I could be wrong but I would not attempt to recover you with that set up.

For now. Until I get my winch in. It my change. The rusted metal is the brackets, i will have them powder coated when I get it the way I want it.

What are your thoughts?? I'm open to suggestions. Almost the same mounting as the Tactal Rover bumper that was put on a DII last week. The only difference was there mounts were welded to the bumper.
