Steering Wheel is stuck on. Help needed... badly.
Hey there Rover folks. I'm in the middle of a clockspring replacement that has gone sideways. My steering wheel is stuck to the steering shaft. I've broken the nut holding it loose and backed it off on 2 turns per the RAVE. However, the damn steering wheel is STUCK and I mean STUCK. So far I've tried banging the rim with a dead blow hammer, spraying PB blaster on the splines, rocking it off for hours ( this has been a multi-day ordeal so far), applying heat to the wheel, and lastly using a 2 jaw pulled and an impact gun to no avail.Am I missing something? or did I just pull the short straw out of the Rover bundle on this one?

I usually loosen the nut, leave it on give the wheel a yank and it comes free, remove nut fully and remove the steering wheel. Usually if it's stuck it's like getting a rotor off a rusted hub you spin it, as you tap on it so you get pressure applied all the way around it. I've never honestly used a steering wheel puller to be honest on a LR.

That's what I've tried with the dead blow hammer on the back of the wheel, all the 2 jaw puller did was deform the nut/shaft a touch. I think I'll try to heat up the wheel slowly, put the puller on it under tension and try the dead blow again.

Hi, is it a mechanical puller not a hydraulic puller as the grease filled once, can pull 10 ton, also I would go for a 3 leg puller as it pulls even on all 3 legs, as you maybe off centre with a 2 leg puller, I would also put a copper/brass piece as a spacer on the end of the shaft to prevent any distortion on the shaft once the puller is in place and ready to use, you can hire these puller at tool hire shops
