Default Strange Overheating Rover

2004 Land Rover Discovery II

Just recently did a full head gasket job. Installed Top hat liners and pinned them for good measure, block and head redecked ect.

New radiator, new water pump, new thermostat. New hose clamps new throttle body heater.

Pressure tested with no leaks, bleed the system for the last 2 days and it still over heats when driven.

At idle it runs cool for hours. All fans come on. Blows hot air at idle. Drive it a few miles air turns cold truck over heats.

I am at a loss at this point.

Could it be air trapped some where? Heater core? I have never had a car or truck do this to me.

Sits at idle at normal operating temp. Drive it over heats. What gives lol?

Check your hoses. Maybe one is collapsing under load and reducing/stopping flow.

Wire from the temp sender shorting when the vehicle moves? Have you confirmed the gauge reading with a IR Thermometer or ultra/scan gauge?

What thermostat did you install? Are you sure the belt and hoses are all properly routed? The hoses to your heater core are hooked up correctly? Make sure the routing of the hoses follows RAVE:

You have spent so much money.
and time to date.

So, spend a bit more.
Replace the radiator.

Just replace it.
Don't even analyze it.
Replace it.

When you have the radiator out - reverse flush the oil coolers and the A/C condenser with a hose.

I knew a guy who had such a problem with a RR Classic. He'd accidentally reversed the fan when he installed it.

Did you bleed the system properly, stone cold, raising the expansion tank above the engine and opening the bleed screw until a steady stream flows out?

New Radiator as well did that Tuesday.

I'll give some of these suggestions a go and see what happens. Going to work on it today. Had to walk away from frustration. =).
