Does that look like bearing shrapnel instead of gear flakes?

I’d slap some cheap gear oil in it, and drive it a bit, then drain it again. Looks like a TC thats been run low on fluid.

Were there symptoms of badness that prompted you to check the fluid?

No Symptoms. I swapped the front prop shaft for a serviceable one, and figured why not service it while I was under there. I'm glad I did because there was only about a quart in there. I threw some Tractor Supply 85/140 in it. At 4 bucks a quart, I don't mind dumping it again. I did notice that the gasket is in pretty bad shape too, so I'm guessing that's the cause of the oil loss. Looks like I may have some decisions to make.

Would that be some of that magnetic brass?

Definitely looks like brass. If that's the case, will that quickly lead to catastrophic failure?

I'm guessing it's bronze plated steel if it's a stamped out fitting. Just looks like brass.
