Unhappy TD5 Starting problem

My TD5 used to start first time everytime. Now it fires up runs and stops for a couple of times. Once its running it's fine. Any ideas?

Well I unfortunately do not have an answer for what is wrong with your truck, but to Bundu, a TD5 is the Diesel version of the Disco sold overseas.

lol I know what a TD5 is... just making a point.
We don't find diesels this side of the pond, so it's not likely that anyone will be able to answer the question.
The OP is better off posting to a UK site or one local to his region, wherever that may be.

Ditto on posting elsewhere, us Colonists won't be of much help since 99.9999% of us are stuck with petrol V8's.

....man, I wish I had a TD5 to have problems with

it is most likely defective and can not be repaired...if you ship it to me I will dispose of it properly

seriously though I'm not a diesel expert but it sounds like it could be a problem with your glow plugs if it tends to happen more on cold mornings

Yes, it would be nice to own a TD5. I keep trying to get my cousin in Spain to buy my on and send it over. I disagree on the glow plugs. It sound like it is losing its fuel prime. That is why it take several attempts to stay running. I could be wrong. Never worked on one but all diesels are pretty much the same.

Did you run it out of fuel recently? My dad had a 6.9 diesel Ford van, if he ran it out of fuel he had to bleed the fuel system to get it going again.

Start with changing the fuel filter, then look into the quality of the fuel as well as the air filter to see if it is clogged.

And just to clear things up for everyone, the glow plugs only work if you turn the key "ON" but do NOT start the engine, once the starter engages they shut off and stay off.
