Default Terrible in the snow

Are there any known issues with the Traction control and ABS systems that someone could inform me of without having to look through pages of posts? I drove My 03 Disco for the first time in the snow today and have to say I was rather disappointed. The truck does some really odd things. The rear brakes seem to lock up sometimes and the TC is terrible. Can it be disabled?

No known issues, as far as I know. As long as the traction control is working, I can tell you that my 03 is the most capable and secure truck I've ever had in the snow, and I've run off road as a hobby in a lifted and locked Ford ranger as well as Jeeps.

The number one factor you need to look at in my opinion is your tires. I've had great performance out of BFG all terrains, General Grabber AT'2's, Firestone Destination AT's, and Bridgestone Duelers.

Look at the tread design of the tires you are running, it's likely you have a tire that is optimized for pavement with very little siping for wet use, or not enough voids in the tread pattern to allow snow to clean out.

I've got DuraTrac's on my '03, and it's amazing in the snow. A few others on this board have had the same experience with the GY DT's...sorry your tires aren't working for ya.

by the looks of it I have to ditch the stock wheels. Everything they make in a 255/55/18 is a performance tire.

That's what I did...swapped the stock 18's for 16's. Got some steel wheels from Atlantic British when they were on sale. Craigslist and junkyards are also a good option, although I couldn't find anything there, in the time that I needed the wheels.

Which Geolander do you have? There are many different versions of the Geolander tire.
I agree it is your tires, I run Cooper Discoverer S/T's and my truck is unstoppable in the snow.
It also makes a difference on how much tread you have left.
As for ditching the 18" rims, you will need to stay with Land Rover rims as nothing else will fit.
But you can get 16" rims from any other year DII or P-38 Range Rover. (1995-2002)

Yeah when I had Kumo Road Venture 18" tires...basically highway tires all tread stripping had 5 vertical lines for shedding water. My Discovery would get stuck in a wet grass field. How imbarasing. Now I have 16" Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 2's. Nice tires! & over 11 reviews on tirerack.com from other Discovery owners. 13,000 miles later and no signs of wear.

You can get the Nitto Terra Grapplers in 255/55/18's...at least you could a couple of years ago when I got mine...pretty aggressive tire and good to excellent reviews all around...

They handle very well in the wet stuff and snow...just got pounded with 10" last night and as usual the tires handled the Rover admirably.

Better tires, learn how to drive it in the snow and are your 3 Amigos on?
