Default Thinking about a 2003 Disco HSE7

I found a very nice (inside and out) 03 HSE7. Its got 122K on the clock. Its completely loaded..with everything from the old Navi to a rear mounted DVD player...which no one on the lot knows how to work including me...help??

Anyway, I test drove it..it runs great, stops great, air suspension works, heck everything works...except the DVD. LOL!

I noticed its got a oil leak..any common clues on that? Its up towards the front of the motor.

I'm selling my 04 Expedition EB 4x4 with all the goodies. with 112K on it.

Thinking about this Disco to replace it.

Am I smoking crack or would this be a decent trade out? I use it as a daily driver.

I tow a 3700lb boat/trailer combo to the lake about 1 or 2 times a month during the summer for about 160 miles each way...and I tow the boat a 1 or 2 times during the week days to the local lake, only about 15 miles each way. Will this thing handle it?

Do I need to worry about over heating this model?...I mean, is it some kind of problem on the Discos? The service tech over there says I should be aware.

Anyway, any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

'03s have no CDL, some have oil pump failure issues and the front drive shaft needs to be rebuilt..read sticky threads

central differential lock they are on 99-01 and 04 discovery 2's they lock all wheels so all 4 spin at the exact same speed and time. The cats meow for off roading.

also disco's have 188 horsepower.. 4.6 which the 04 has is a marginal amount more. Not the greatest for pulling itself let alone a trailer but it would do it.

It will pull, it is just slow. If you want to pull freight train fast get a big chevy or whatever. If you don't mind clacking along slowly for those 15 miles to the lake you will be just fine.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I think I was just bitten by the bug.
The 4.6 has 217hp with a VERY optimistic 7000lbs tow rating LOL!...it does claim 300lbs of torque, which isnt bad.

But it reminds me now of my old 1997 F-150 with the 4.6L..it would tow but it was an exercise in frustration...and at that time I only towed motorcycles, not a boat.

Although, these days I dont go past 60-65 mph while towing.

I think I better hold off for something with more power and less potential problems. Awe heck...I'll just hang on to the Expedition.

Great forum! Thanks again!
