Thinking about getting a Discovery....
Greetings, I usually just post in the Defender area but I am thinking about selling my Defender and getting a Disco. Need some advice on years to stay away from and what would be a good vehicle for on and off road. Any help would be great!
Thanks in Advance,
David

Stay away from the 2003 because of the oil pump issues. Late 2001-2003 don't have CDL so aren't recommended for off road. Late 1999-early 2001 (D2) have CDL in the transfer case but the linkage to engage it is missing. Linkage can be added easy enough. 1994-1999 (D1) as well as 2004 have CDL standard. The D1 is a little simpler than the D2, not as much electronics to cause problems. The D2 is a little longer and wider so they have a little more interior room but both generations have the same 100" wheelbase. The D1 uses full floating axles at both ends which are stronger than the D2. Overall, the 2004 is the best of the Discovery world.

get a year with a CDL. if you plan on any moderate off roading you will need it eventually.
it has been something that has made me happy that i spend more to get my 04 then to have saved a couple grand on the 03's i was thinking on buying,,,,
that and the potential for a engine tossing its guts
