THrottle cable fix

2000 Land rover discovery 2, approx 110,000 miles.
My throttle cable broke today. not a big deal to fix and I'm sure i'll be able to figure it out. What worries me is that the cable broke right where it feeds into the firewall. It seems as though the cable was on a serious angle and it eventually sheered the cable off and it snapped. I did some searching and saw that there was a factory recall with the cable because of this problem. Is there a fix or should I just have an extra throttle cable in my truck for when the next one sheers off right at the fire wall.
I was thinking of trying to slightly re route the cable so it enters the firewall straight-on instead of at the harsh angle.
Thanks for any help.
Is there a stronger cable available?

Hello,
This is not a common problem that we see so it is not something that should happen over & over to you. I would think that you would be okay to go again However i do understand rerouting for a more direct approach angle! Good luck! Paul Grant would have used cables if you want to go that route!

There's nothing wrong with the original throttle cables. The recall was prompted by improper installation (more specifically, when the cable was installed at the factory some of them were pushed at an angle that broke the plastic/nylon ferrule that went through the firewall, then the cable itself could rub on the metal of the hole and eventually fail). What we did in the recall was to
- open the hood
- look at the cable where it went through the firewall to see if it was broken.
- if it wasn't, put a sticker on the radiator core support.
- if it was, replace the cable. (then put a sticker on the core support
)
