...brake pads.

Well after 3 years and 40,000 miles my truck is finally due for new brake pads.
My wifes car is out of service as of today so the truck had to step up to #1 car status and after driving across town in heavy traffic and back the brakes started to squeal.
Once we got home took out my flashlight and took a peak and sure enough...I will be changing the pads this weekend after church.

Well, the good news is the pads are easy. Maybe the easiest thing to do. Make sure to open the bleed screw when you push the caliper back so you don't push all of the junk back up the line.

If you are going local, I will say that I tried the pads from Autozone and they are noisy and dusty. They also wear out fast. I used a lot of squeal stop on the backs too. I would suggest you use it as well. You have to wait for it to cure, but it is worth the wait.

I am going with TruStop pads from NAPA, they are cheaper than the ones from AutoZone and they are the same ones I use on my work van and they do a great job.
They last about 6 weeks on my van and have zero dust and no noise until they get 3/4 worn then they become noisy as hell.

If pads only last six weeks, is it safe to say that rotors only last about six months or even less?

Yes, brake pads last 6 weeks on average.
Rotors last about 9 months because I do not have them turned, when they get stress cracks they get replaced and they are about as thick at a Coke can when that happens.

A picture is worth a 1000 words...
I'm inquisitive how ceramic pads will hold up on that van? Something like Akebono.

Interesting, Akebono claims:
The use of highly advanced ceramic brake pad technology allows
Akebono’s "EURO" pad line to provide excellent stopping power while extending rotor life and virtually eliminating brake dust.
