Tire Inflation Question?

I just installed a new set of Yokohama Geolandar 255/55/R18 tires on my 2004 Discovery. The dealer inflated the tires to 32 lbs. I noticed that the maximum inflation for the tires is 50lbs. There seems to be a variance of opinions as to what is preferred since the vehicle is heavier that the average SUV. I will only use the vehicle for highway or in town use and want the tires to wear evenly. Thanks!

around 40 is what i run... the higher the pressure the less rolling resistance thus better gas mileage, but i rougher ride, less air pressure and you ride like your on marshmallows but its kills your MPG... most important thing is to make sure both front and both rear have exactly the same, this will keep from causing unneeded wear on your diffs and keep the vehicle from pulling to one side while you drive...

I agree with discoxd, 40-45 is best for mileage but gives a slightly rougher ride. I ran 45 in my tires. As long as the tires on an axle are at the same pressure they don't have to be the same front and rear. I don't know about the D2 but D1s call for 26 front and 36 rear on the door sticker. The higher pressure in the rear is to compensate for heavier loads. Since the transfer case is essentially an open differential and allows the driveshafts to turn at different speeds you can run the different tire pressure front to rear.

Why would you get rid of 16" rims for 18"? Most go the other way. I'm curious how much difference there is in ride quality.
