How often do you rotate the tires?
I do it based on the wear pattern, usually every 7500 at least.

Years ago, based on tire design, there were a number of different tire rotation plans, now for the most part, it is front to rear only. Whne you need a new set you just buy 3 new ones to match your still new spare.

apcolin you are correct about not using impact guns to remove the lugs. I saw this happen at Pismo last year when I popped both beads on the driver's side. We used my steel wheel spare and an 18" spare from another guy. The shop guy had to pound out the chrome lugs, and when the owner of the spare went to put it back on the tire carrier, he had a very hard time with his tire iron. In fact he knocked off one of the caps just to fit the lug nut.

Which is a good reason to have a protective tire cover on the spare. UV light will age a tire and increase the chances of side wall cracks; a cover is a good investment if you plan to use it with the next set of tires.

what IS the difference between all-wheel drive and full time four wheel drive anyway?

oh and i have had the 3 amigos on for the whole 2 years ive had my rover. but i get stuck a lot. not so much that i blame the truck or the lack of driving skill but a lack of judgment and an acute over abundance of enthuiasm. again ask XB70valkarye - he was there for the last round of stuck-ness.

if i do 100% more stupid stuff than anyone else with me and only get away with it 90% of the time does that make me stupid or lucky???
or both?

All wheel drive is what Subrarus have, they are a front wheel drive car with the transfer case as part of the transmission.
It uses viscous clutch's to transfer power front to back and another viscous clutch in the rear diff to transfer power from side to side.
Normal dry roads 60% power to the front and 40% to the rear.
The ECU detects wheel spin it transfers power front to rear/side to side.

Full time four wheel drive sends power 50% front 50% rear when the CDL is locked.
When it is not locked it still sends equal power front and rear but allows power to transfer front and rear by using the center differential.
No clutchs, just gears.
If you have traction control then when the ECU detects wheel spin it applies the brake to the spinning wheel, buy stopping that wheel it allows power to transfer down the axle through the differential to the other wheel, a spinning wheel is useless, if it is spinning then it has no traction.
If you have the 3 amigos then you have no ABS and no traction control and no hill decent control.

This is why I do a 5 tire rotation. Also because I do not plan on getting these tires for my next set. I'm going to step it up a notch to super swampers.
