Default Tire size discussion

I have an '02 Discovery and I am about to purchase new tires. I am running the stock 255 55 18 right now but would like to upsize a bit if possible, without a lift. I was wondering if anyone is running a larger size tire that doesn't cause any rubbing or other issues.

Thanks for your help

What will you be using the truck for? 18" wheels are hard to work with which is why most owners run the 16" wheels. Are you wanting to stay with the 18's or trade into a set of 16's?

I've got factory 16's on mine. '03 Disco, 42K miles, little off-road, nothing crazy.

-Mike; would you recommend a 16" other than the factory size? And it so, why.

-thanks

I will be sticking with the 18" rims because I plan on selling the truck in winter and buying a different model.

I am a big believer in a 245/75/16 for a stock Disco with no lift, look good and they don't rub.

Mike,

I am thinking of upgrading my suspension to OME, would you still go with 245/75/16

As per DiscoMike's suggestion I went with the heavy duty OME lift front and rear and added 16" wheels with BFG 265/75/16 TA tires. It's the ideal set up. Period. Okay, ideal for going off road and still having a truck notoverly tweaked for my commute to my office gig.

I resisted dropping the coin on 16" wheels, but the 18" wheels really do suck for off roading. If the wheels don't suck the selection of 18" tires REALLY sucks as do the prices of those tires.

For the record the OME lift is a touch bumpy. If I did less off roading I might have stuck with the medium duty OME springs I initially had.

Thanks for the your experience. I'm debating medium vs. heavy, as well as tire size.

The BFG All-Terrain is available in a size that will fit the 18" rims. As people said not ideal but not a bad choice either.

are you able to tell me which BFG All-Terrain size tires can go on the 18" wheel (factory set-up) without rubbing?
