Tom Woods DS help needed...
First thing tomorrow I'm going to be ordering a Tom Woods front shaft for my D2. Any thing I should ask for special or any tips any of you have for the order process as far as getting the best shaft I can get from them? Anything else I should replace at the same time as my drive shaft that I should go ahead and order? Thanks a LOT in advance. (I don't need a rear shaft do i?....mine seems to be in good shape). (I have a 3" RTE if that matters)

I would order from Will Tillery at roverguy.com. Will orders directly from TW and its cheaper.
Would it not be just as cheap for me to order direct from TW? I don't see how TW making profit AND WT making profit would be cheaper unless TW just overcharges the hell out of normal people and gives WT a really good $. To add I've inquired about several parts from him before and have never gotten a single response.

KBW -- looks like you and I are in the same stages of Disco overhaul... I ordered a front driveshaft from TW yesterday. I also recommend measuring it. Mine came in at 25" exactly. TW said that the cheaper model (shorter spline?) gave you 0.5" of play and the more expensive model (longer spline?) gave you 1.0" of play. This could be helpful if your measurements are off for some reason...
TW also mentioned that a select few people complained about the additional vibration from the TW driveshaft versus LR due to the additional weight/mass. I'm curious - has anyone here noticed anything significant? They were very nice, and said if it was too much of an annoyance they'd accept returns up to 30 days.

others have had to get the TW balanced...I'm hoping that won't be the case for me (I'm installing mine this weekend, I need to get a grease gun).
i ordered directly from TW....it was like $10 more than WT, but figured it would be easier if I needed to return it.

What is the cause for the difference in ds lengths??? I hate having to measure as I have no clue even looking at their site what in the world I'm measuring. I can put anything on a car or change anything out and do anything that comes with directions but I still am learning and don't know anything about a drive shaft. Electronics are more my area. My buddy builds cars but of course he happens to be in Oregon for the army for the next two weeks. I wish I could just call and do like most parts and just say I need a ds for an 03 discovery. Guy on the phone at TW sounded pretty funny.
A little OT but I thought it may be beneficial to you guys. A while ago I read a thread on the TW prop shaft where the poster had his start to fail a little after a year. Apparently the centering ball on the TW needs to be greased but since it doesn't have a zerk it needs to be done with the needle attachment. The poster was clearly not aware that it needed to be greased. I don't know if the shaft came with any literature but just thought I'd offer some third hand second hand information.
Sorry I can't find the post to link to it, but thought you guys would want to know so you could check it out and be sure to grease it if it does in fact need to be greased.

they will need you to verify that you have a disco 2... to measure your front shaft, go from the flange on your transfer case to the flange on your front differential.
a little story about TWcustom driveshafts, i ordered one and it came, next day i go to put it in. took the old driveshaft out, go to put new one in, and wouldnt you know, it would not bolt up! turns out they messed up in the build manifest and sent me a shaft with a clip for a disco 1 and the other end was for a disco 2. i had to verify this over the phone with Tom, and he told me that it was their mistake... he asked me what size i wear, and that they were going to send me a jacket. it is a pretty nice jacket, too.
so the shaft that they sent had to go back to TW, which i sent out by saving the box the second one came in and sending back the first one by authorized return shipping, prepaid by TW...theyre real nice guys to do business with
