Default Towing over 2000 lbs

I am going to purchase a boat- 1990 Four Winns Candia. I have to pull it about 200 miles home. It has the original trailer, which has no brakes. The boat is about 3000 lbs dry. If I take it easy (all freeway driving) will it be safe to tow? My local LR dealer said off the record it would be fine. I wanted your opinions as well.

Thanks

2002 Discovery II

Manual said over 2000 lbs recommended brakes- As stated above, LR Dealer off the record felt it would be okay- wanted your opinions.

You should read your owners manual, where it states the trucks towing capacity.
Also might want to post the year and model if you want a better answer.

You will be fine, just take it easy and remember that it will take you twice as long to stop.
The towing capacitiy in your owners manual is there for legal reasons.
You could pull 10,000lbs, but you would never stop.

You will be fine, ive seen a disco pull about 2,750 pounds (huge boat) and it was fine, dont expect good acceleration and give yourself a TON of stopping space. Also hold the wheel tighter becuse you will regret it if you dont.

The biggest thing is to give yourselfMUCH more time to stop than you're used to, especially when following other cars on the highway. I've hauled heavy trailers many times over the yearswith other vehicles and the only close call I had was when a car in front of me rear-ended the guy in front of him and stopped faster than I ever imaginedhe could. If there had been a car beside me in the other lane, I'd have been in real trouble. I slid over and got around the guy...and then went to clean out my shorts.

Make sure that the boat is tied down both fron AND back, I have seen people get into a accident and the boat wound up in the back of their pick-up, and I mean that the bow of the boat smashed the back window of the trk and dented the roof.
