I am slowly starting to work on the 60k tune up, but am a little confused on the transmission filter, has anyone changed this themselves? And if so what tools will I need and how to I go about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

On What year and model????????????????????????????????
If it is a D2, if you read your owners manual, you don't need one.

Hey mike are you saying it is not part of the 60k service on a DII or are you saying that a DII does not need a transmission filter change? Thought it was at 90k myself but I'm too lazy to look at the moment.

Rover says only at the 30,000 which they did for free.
I say if you buy a used one at around 120,000 it might not hurt if you don't have any service history. Do a drain and refill, as it gets older do a drain and refill every 20,000 miles or so if you tow or wheel alot.

Unless you know for a fact that the trans filter has been changed at the 30k mark I would go ahead and change it, it will only take you a extra half hour on a DII and it never hurts to change a filter.
Change the fluid every 30k and the filter every 60k and the transmission will out last you.

how do you change a tranny filter for a d1? I have a series 1(97) with almost 130k on it.

I just went through this on my '98 D1. After looking it over, I gladly paid my mechanic $200 to do. You have to remove the exhaust y-pipe and a crossmember to access the pan/filter. Not that it is undoable by any means though.

I agree with Kenk, have it done as it is a royal pain in the rump on a DI.
The bolts for the cross member will be rusted as will the exhaust bolts, pay the money.
