Sounds like the front cluthc is shot. Will it move in reverse? Did you pull a trans cooler line to see if it was pumping? These almost never go bad, but a few things will do it. Not seating the converter properly will damage the pump irreparably. Revving the engine in neutral like they do at emissions test stations will burn out the front clutch. What's the history on the trans? I can show you pics of what a burnt front clutch looks like. Search the BMW forums on the HP22 or 24, they had more problems than the Discos did.
