Default Transmission Help

Ok this is getting frustrating to say the least with transmission working. Is there anyone here very familiar with the transmission that can help me with it? I want to get all ducks in a row for this so I can get what might be needed to make this work.

You mean a transmission removal/install? Or issues with XYZ? Or faults?

Non operational. Had unit hooked up with no transfer case installed at this time and tested output shaft did spin when in gear and picked up speed with gas. After transfer case installed non movement. Fluid was checked with engine running and in neutral and when opening the filler fluid did come out.. When transmission in park vehicle will not move, when in neutral the vehicle can be pushed freely. when in gear just sits there. Not sure if I can scan for faults with what I have to scan with.

Sounds like the front cluthc is shot. Will it move in reverse? Did you pull a trans cooler line to see if it was pumping? These almost never go bad, but a few things will do it. Not seating the converter properly will damage the pump irreparably. Revving the engine in neutral like they do at emissions test stations will burn out the front clutch. What's the history on the trans? I can show you pics of what a burnt front clutch looks like. Search the BMW forums on the HP22 or 24, they had more problems than the Discos did.

my first was working great until engine swap and second one doing almost the same thing. I have my original one still with me that I can remove the bell housing and pump to check it. But first one had no fluid moving through lines when running.

No fluid through the lines is a broken pump. I would check that first on the one in the truck. There were some posts on the BMW forums about the broken pump, several people did it before everyone figured out you needed to be careful on install.

in hind site I will tear down the front of my original. If I just need the front pump I can order just the headset from Ashcroft with out the housing if that looks good. Much cheaper with out the housing.
get that one fixed up and try it again.

Right, good thought. While you have it apart I would replace the front seal and consider the front clutch. They are all right there. Is yours a 22 or 24? Miles on the original?

it’s a 24 and 170k , this one about 40k miles ago had new filter such done to it

170 I would think about doing that front clutch, at least look at it.
