Default Transmission just quit.

I have a 2004 SE. the other day I was driving to work with no issues. Stopped at gate to go to work. When I went to take off the RPMs went up and car barely moved. I was able to limp the car about 1/8 mile driving at idle. When I touched gas it would raise rpm but not go faster. Then all of a sudden it was not moving forward at all. I tried all gears, I changed transfer to low, and I tried CDL locked in with no changes. Everything moves freely and feels like it goes in gears. No movement at all. I pulled the filler plug and it runs out, does not smell burnt or dirty. It is not in limp mode with flashing m&s and not pulling any codes. I am at a loss as of what to look for. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Could be a cracked/broken flexplate. Once they break the engine/torque converter are technically no longer connected together. It's like a 30-50.00 part online.

I worked on a good friends 03 D2 which one day just quit moving while out driving. I had it towed to my place and he bought another HP24 thinking the worse. Well I tore it all down, and when I removed the transmission the flexplate or what was left of it came crashing down in pieces. I went ahead and replaced his transmission, and I ordered him a new flexplate, but the original HP24 was still good besides not having the cleanest ATF in it.

I couldn't really see cracks on the flexplate thru the inspection holes. It was only once the bolts were out and the transmission was moved back that it fell apart. It had basically torn around the 6 bolts on the crank and was just free spinning.

My flex plate broke at ~120k with similar symptoms...just suddenly lost all drive and while the transmission seemed to be working normally; no amount of RPM would move the vehicle forward or reverse.

You can check for broken flex plate by looking at torque converter through inspection cover on bottom of bellhousing. If its not spinning, you found your problem. Be sure to have wheels chocked, e brake set, transmission in park when you check. Safety first!

If the flex plate has come apart, Ashcroft has a heavy duty version available:
