Default Transmission Slipping

Does anyone else have a problem with the transmission not wanting to engage into first after coming to a stop or resuming acceleration after coasting? (2001 Disco II, 79k) It always gets into gear, but it is slipping!

This happens twice a week at a stop light about 3 miles from my house on my way to work. I think that this is the only time that it ever really happens.

Any thoughts?

(I changed my transmission filter and fluid about 6 months ago - and yes, it has the proper amount of fluid.)

Does this test pass or fail?

Very interesting. I will perform the test and report back.

I appreciate the input!

My guess is that if it passes this, you can pretty well rule out the torque converter, and narrow your focus to the transmission itself.

From your description, it likely is the trans, but you may as well be fairly sure. It's such a simple test.

And if your parking brake and foot brake is working well, you won't move AT ALL even if you don't chock the wheels. Just make sure you're pointed in a safe direction in case you break free.

I am picturing Chevy Chase in his station wagon sitting in his garage facing the house...

Avoid that stop light like the black plauge and find an alternative way to work.

Do you release the footbrake or keep it depressed throughout the test? The instructions don't really clarify.

Foot brake, paring brake, and chocks on. All the time during the test.

Sorry to drag up this thread but I have been having problems with my trans I had it replaced and it's doing the same thing I came across this thread and performed this yes and I only get 2000 revs I see that means lack of engine power? Does that affect slipping transmissions? What should I look for.
