u-joint greasing seemingly wrong ???
Friends,
I wasunder my Disco, greasing my front driveshaft and slip yoke this afternoon for the first time since thedriveshaft rebuild and all went really well. I also used synthetic grease like you guys suggested.
But.....Since I was under there with the grease gun and all, I decided to give the same treatment to the rear driveshaft. As I was greasing it, grease was only coming out1 of the 4 cross ends. So I decided to keep giving it, but I was really just wasting grease, since nothing was happening at the other ends. What gives ??? I thought it could be the zerk fitting, but ifit was I guess that grease would just not go in at all.
What do I make of this ???. This u-joint is not like the spicer joint I had put in the front with the grease fittings on the end of 1 of the cross. Its the type that has the fittingin the corner of theV or whatever its called.
Wadayatink???

RE: u-joint greasing seemingly wrong ???
Good question, I don't know for sure.It happens to me pretty often, I never really questioned it though. I'll bet that all of the bearings are getting grease, but it only comes out a few of the seals that have the least resistance. If you really wanted, I bet you could jam more grease into it quicker andit would probably come out all four seals. Shouldn't make a difference though, seems like the joint has to fill with grease before it comes out, at least that's my take. I suppose there could be blockage in there...

That's exactly what i'm worried about...blockage!! But I do hope you're right about the grease coming out of only one end because its seal is weaker or something. But I don't think so. The more I think about it the more I expect the others to chime in with bad news. We'll see I guess.

Its normal if you move the drive shaft it will put the pressureon a different end and grease will come out there.
Roll the truck foward and change the angle of the zerk,,or after a few days regrease the u-joint and most times it will change and you will get grease in more than one end cap.
