u-joint replacement/D2
Mike has been warning everyone to replace the double u-joints on your Disco II. Just did mine and in the nick of time. Bearings where rusted and the u-joints where about to fail. There was no vibration or warning of certain impending failure. If you haven't changed yours.......do it now.
Just curious...how many miles do you have when you replaced your u-joints?
I've thought about replacing it, but Mike said to wait...since my Disco is still under warranty.

Just had mine done yesterday with spicer u-joints which are apparently the best and most recommended onesaccording tothe driveline experts I went to. He said that neapco are absolute crap ( which confirmedwhy they are known ascheapco on most forums) whichI could have had installedfor almost half the price. Then you have precision which are half way between the 2.
My 2000Disco has 56000 miles, and they said that they didn't have to be changed. But they saw that by disassembling them. So although they were fine, I'm still glad to have had them done and to now have greasable ones. At least now I know.
ONE LESS THING TO WORRY ABOUT !!!
New u-joints, new head gaskets, new front gasket, new O2s, new rad, new y-pipe gaskets ( no more ticking at all)new synthetic fluids everywhere, tranny filter changed....BY god, I think I'm done. WHOOHOO!

Replaced under warranty due to severe vibration at 55k. It literallyhappened as I was driving on the highway home from work one day, drove it straight to the dealer and parked it. I knew right away what it was. Luckily total failure never happened.
The driveline shop ordered them, so not sure where they came from. I had the choice of all 3, but went with their recommendations. Its most likely a supplier that has access to all of them...why???
Did mine back in Nov. Got the U-joints from Rover Connection and had them installed at a local drive line shop. They looked at me a little funny when I first requested the work since there was nothing obviously wrong with eht originals, but as soon as I explained, they were right on it.
I got very lucky with my original set given that I'm at 125,000 miles!
