I've been aware of the 2003 oil pump "issue" for some time.
Just curious to know how many failures have actually occurred or what percentage of trucks has blown engines...
My 2003 has 112,000 miles on it with no oil related problems (fortunately). I do maintain her well, but inversely use it as the workhorse for my tile construction company towing a cargo trailer with heavy loads nearly every day. Tile, Cement, Sand... heavy stuff.
Is the failure issue for real or are we venturing into urban-myth territory?
I've spoke with many other 03 owners with 80+ on their discos. They too have questioned the oil pump concerns.
Any real numbers-1:5, 1:10, 1:50, 1:1000 etc
Humbly,
MWmG

I too would like to know. I would also like to know what's happening with the guys that have stated they have the "oil pump issue"? Did the dealer or LR do anything to help defray some of the costs? Did they sue?
I saw the post about the class action suit. I think the only people that'll get anything from that are the lawyers.[8D]
I've still got about a year and a half on my extended warranty and we're at about 65,000 miles. When the warranty is up she'll be traded.

It is not a myth, but not all trks were affected. Only a certain number of them were, they have a really good idea of which ones but nobody knows 100%.
You might be in the VIN# range of bad engines but yoiur engine is actually good.
If your oil pump were to fail and you shut the enigne off right away and then replaced the oil pump I would think that you would be good to go until that one fails.
Most have seemed to fail in the 40-50k range.
