Hi all,

I know what Discomike and others say and I've read different thoughts...

Any guidance?

And, what type saddle soap should I buy? I have only seen the paste/wax type at shoe stores...thanks

Hi,

Discomike's thought is to use saddle soap to clean leather, then follow up the next day with lexol to condition and restore ph balance etc.

Default Saddle Soap

Saddle soap is a preparatory compound containing mild soap and softening ingredients such as neatsfoot oil, glycerin, and lanolin. It also contains bee's wax to protect leather. It is used for cleaning, conditioning and softening leather, particularly that of saddles and other horse tack, hence its name.

You can buy saddle soap at any farm supply store.
I have been using Armor All Leather Care on mine and it seems to work well.
Rub it in, let it dry and slide off when you stop.

That is it, just like shoe polish. it will clean it well, may remove some color as well, my Italian leather couches did.

You can followup with mink oil for a more waterproof final step if you like to go out in the wilderness.

I like saddle soap for leather. It comes in a paste and you just rub it in.

The armor all stuff, if used generously will leave the seats sticky. It took almost 2 weeks to get it off and my pants were forever stained.

Stick with a moderate dollop of saddle soap and rub it in. If you do it on a warmish day it goes in better. Then buff the leather off when it dries.

Hi

Does it matter if I have black leather? A shoe repair shop guy said the saddle soap may show in between the crevices etc.
