well i flushed out the engine with 6 quarts of ATF. it seems to run well, the temp gauge is just a hair lower. on previous oil changes, when you first start it, you could here the top end sounding dry until the oil got up there. this time it sounded great from the get go, even though the oil light was on until the oil got up there. hopefully this will work!

What oil filter did you use before switching to the K&N?
Consider doing a 1 can engine flush, using Gunk engine flush, at 1500 to 2000 miles to add that finishing touch.
The Lucas is fine for preventing additional wear, stay with you regular oil weight and things will settle down, if not you may have a rocker shat or arm wearing, possibly a lifter, but I wouldn'y go there till at least the next oil change.

well there is a new issue since the flush. when it sits overnight and you start it, there is a low pitched hum that gets higher then goes away in about 30 seconds. it is in the engine compartment. it has never done this until the atf flush. its hard to say if it is a hum or buzz sound. it goes away to quick for me to find so far. my question is could the oil pump make that sound if i have clogged it? it does sound like something priming up. oh and mike, i bought it 3 months go and i used a fram for about 1000 miles, then k&n. it has had 4 oil changes in 3 months! i havent used the lucas since oil change #2.

Not because I recommend the ATF flush, but there really isn't anything that can cause an engine to hum after a flush. If you want to talk more about it, send me your tele number and we can talk.

Open the hood and have a friend start the truck and listen for the humming.
It has to be electrical, you just probabaly could not hear it before.
Maybe your ABS pump, or your stepper motor.

What is the best route to preserve and minimize damage to the vehicle?

Fill it with all it's fluids, wash it and park it in your garage never to be driven again.
