Default Vw tdi engine swap

What would it take to swap a diesel into a discovery 1?

I understand it would need a transmission adapter or a new transmission. But what about the rest? If I can get a land rover for 500$ and a tdi engine for 2-3k would it be worth it?

I have driven a tdi jetta and they barely move around. I doubt it would move a disco that well.

i think the perfect affordable diesel would be the benz 3.0L 5cyl.

they are extremly tough and torquey...they respond very well to modifications....

and there is so many of them that they are affordable.......

If you could find a 5.0 v10 TDI out of a wrecked tuareg, it would be interesting. Aluminum block, SOHC, 310 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Now just how to shoehorn it in there, and get it to run correctly.

yeah I think an OM617 would be an excellent choice. I mentioned this in a thread a while back but nobody had any info on doing the swap. There is a guy making adapter plates for our ZF trannys for $1k.
