Default welding

Is there any specific actions that need to be done before doing some welding on my 96 D1.

Does the ECU need to be unpluged or just disconnect the battery, new cats being fitted.

Also about a 96 D1 is there suppose to be a suppressor fitted to the alternator? I have two alt's and both do not have one, I have taken the cover off and can not see one, unless it is some kind of new fancy gezmo as I am looking for a round silver or black square one.

Thanks

Drop you grand cable at the battery and you'll be fine.
Just out of curiosity, why are you running two alternators on your truck?
