Default Well, that doesn't look right... cap off of transmission front.

Was crawling around underneath today when I saw a rubber cap missing from the front face of the transmission. By luck it was wedged in below it, so it wasn't lost.
I assume it just pops back in the hole.
But... should it be dry in there? That doesn't seem right to me.
I assume I'm seeing the front face of my torque converter?

So very dry inside.

Luckily not lost.

Dry is good. If it was nasty in there, you have a rear main seal, split convertor, and/or trans input shaft leaks.

edit: you were looking at flywheel and ring gear in a typical set up... not familiar with these though.

Good luck getting it back in, most swell up to big to fit. Number ERR7229 if you want to buy new ones, pretty sure L8 carries them. Inside is the flex plate, it should be dry.

That does seem like it.
Thank you both for the reassurance. Was worried I was running without transmission fluid or something.
"Swells up" doesn't begin to describe it! I thought I was looking at the wrong part (but that number confirmed it, well done Red5). Seems like it's an inch too large. Might have to get a new one even though this one seems fine.

Picture doesn't really do it justice.
Going to give it another go, but not hopeful...

I recently replaced one of my missing grommets with ease and noticed how bulged out and concave the other grommet was.

There is a Chevy rubber cap that also drops right in. It was listed on here a while back.
