Default What height jack to install shocks and springs

I'm doing my suspension today and only have the stock jack so I'm heading out to buy a jack to do the job. Anyone know about what height jack I should get? I know I need to jack up the frame and put it on jack stands and then put a jack under the axel to support/lower it and the stock jack on the axel.

Harbor freight has a bottle jack that goes up 18" and one of those screw jacks that go up to 22". The bottle jack looks more stable though. So anyone know if any of those would get the frame up high enough?

You just need to be able to remove both wheels simultaneously (both front and then both rear) and to allow the axle and hubs to hang all the way down in order to have sufficient play to manipulate the suspension to fit the new springs. The most important thing you'll need are some high quality and tall jack stands.

It's a PITA, but when it's all said and done you'll be pleased!

I have a set of high, 3 ton craftsman jackstands so I'm hoping they will work I just need a jack that goes as high as my stands.

This is the other one:

What can I say I'm cheap.

yeah I like that one but I don't want to drop $100 on a jack today. I can probably borrow one of those though but my garage is real tight that is why I like the bottle type jacks.

I don't have one as nice as the one pictured, I actually have an el-cheapo I bought from Wal-Mart 6 or 7 years ago. It's that style though, 2 1/2 ton, and cost me a heck of a lot less than $100! Look on Craigslist, you might get lucky.

I like life, that's why I only use a floor jack and appropriately rated jack stands.

I figured the 20 ton jack would be enough. Turns out Lucky 8 still did not get their OME shipment in yesterday so won't be doing it this weekend anyhow. I guess I should have just ordered from Atlantic British instead of getting excuses from Lucky 8 for 2 weeks just to save $100.
