What issues do Range Rovers have compared to Discos?
I was just looking for a simple explanation out of utter curiosity. I know what issues a 2002 Disco II would come with. Like the 3 amigos, drive shaft, thermostat, heating, etc. I was just wondering what a 2002 Range Rover (not even sure what model to compare) would come with. Guess it's just because I see them driving down the road and I am very curious what types of things those owners are dealing with.
Thanks for playing along. :-)

The P38 Range Rover can have EAS issues from air bags, valve blocks, pumps, and height sensors (most people convert em to coil springs), HVAC control head issues & blend door motor issues, Viscous Coupling issues, blown heater core O-Rings, and the ABS pump is $$$$ and the charged ball that gives you a firm pedal is getting harder to find and more $$$$.
That's about it really. I had a 97 Range Rover Vitesse 4.6L HSE in AA Yellow and I just had one height sensor fail. It was of coarse a GEMS based P38 vs Bosch.

Get the 2003 Range Rover or newer.
Engine is not the junk sleeves engine of the 2003 Disco.
The 2003 Range Rover actually has a real engine which will not blow up or melt down.
Probably why the price of a 2003+ RR is always $10K or more.
Plus that was the new body style year and with the shark fins it just looks cool.

I don't see nearly as many dead P38's as I do D2's. They had a different front cover, different style/design thermostat.
The 03-05 RR isn't bulletproof. The fancy steering column can cost you $$$$ if it acts up, and right now there are 3 on CL in my area with blown transmissions or Engines.
The Buick 215 based engine was in LR's from the 60's until 04. The BMW engine was in a RR from 03-05. Kinda speaks for itself if you ask me.
Shark fin's were cool, but they got copied way to much.
