From previous posts I have heard always use synthetic gear oil from Disco Mike in your Transfer Case. Guess its up to you and your budget.

I was just reading on Google that is manufactured by Penzoil, but it can change from time to time.

I figured it had to be decent oil, because rednecks at shopping at Wal-Mart cant have their Ford F-150's dropping pistons lefty & right! Ye Know:D

Hey now........ I'd be careful what u say about REDNECKS. You never know when you might just need one...............

I saw Coastal brand gear oil at a Tractor Supply place in 2 gallon jugs for right at 30 bucks, but was not familar with that brand.

Spike does the brand mane really matter that much when buying gear oil.

I know I always feel better buying the major brands like Mobil and Castrol GT and Quaker State, but does it really make much difference since after all oil is oil, if it's the right weight does the brand really justify paing lots more for that feeling of confidence?

When it comes to gear oil I dont worry about the brand to much, if a major brand is less than a dollar more per quart I will buy it, otherwise I wont.
The first time I changed my gear lubes I waded and got water in them, it was full syn.
Huge waste of money as I had to change it.
So now I just change it every spring and buy 7 qts of whatever brand.
Just depends on where I am shopping that day.
Last year I used Travller brand from TSC, year before that Wal-Mart.
This year Wal-Mart.
When it comes to motor oil and trans fluid I am alot more picky.

Yeah if you change your gear boxes every year you could use just about any old gear lubricant. I still say the Rotella gear oil is a steal for $5 a quart. It is supposedly repackaged shell spirax which is some tough stuff.

I did not know that, I will have to look for it next time.
