Default What Winch?

So... I have a Hard Labor Creek winch bumper and I'm looking to purchase a winch for it.

I'd really like to have a Warn Zeon, but I think they are 1/4" too wide for the space available in my bumper... (BUMMER!) Plus, they are pretty pricey...

I am not a frequent off roader, so it likely won't see much use, although it would have come in handy this weekend when a buddy had his Honda Pilot stuck down over a hill in the snow at a rural shooting range...

I am guessing that I need an 8000lb winch at a minimum, and would probably benefit from a 10000lb model.

I think I'd also prefer one with synthetic rope, rather than cable.

I am looking for suggestions.

Go...

personally speaking i ike superwinch. I have used them many times on different LR products. I am a wee bit old school and have had Warn winches fail on me in the past. I have a Superwinch 1510200 LP10000 Winch, with Rugged Ridge 15102.10 11/32-Foot x 100-Foot Synthetic Winch Rope. I have used it in extreame conditions with out fail and would recomened it.

Harobur Frieght have some nice 12,000LB winches at resonable prices, one of the guys I go off roading has one on his 2001 Disco 2 but we have not had to put it to hard tests yet.

It's like most things one person likes and another does not so you pay your coin and take your choice.

Nice! I'm glad you got one before Denny stopped production.

I'll give another vote to Smitty Built. I have a 8k on the 110 and I'm happy with it.

I also have the Smittybilt XRC 8 with synthetic. I don't offroad as much as I would like to but wanted something just in case.

Take a look at this.

2X your GVW is the recommended spec, so an 8K lb would not be ideal. If you're willing to downgrade to "acceptable", the Warn M8000 is pretty good bang for buck, and it's assembled in the US (that's better than most). Would definitly spring for a synthetic line. I also hear a lot of good things about Harbor Freight, the most common negative being that it's slow. If that's not reallly a factor, may be an easy decision.
