Default Whats it worth? 2004 Disco built

Ive run across an intriguing buy but need some unbiased opinons...
The seller owns a place in Alpharetta, GA and worked for land rover/mercedes/bmw for 40 years as a mechanic. Finney's Classic Cars is name of the business.

He has a 2004 Discovery for sale that im intrested in but dont really know if its worth what he's asking.

Asking is $11,500

84k miles
Interior is 9.5/10
Exterior 10/10
2" lift new tires
Steel front and rear bumpers
Head gaskets replaced (preventative measure, not a result of malfunction)

Says he is very firm on the price. Thoughts?

No way! You could buy another disco with the same miles and year for around 5K. With the extra 6.5K you'd save you could buy new front and rear bumpers, a lift, and many more mods and still have change left over.
And I don't care who owned the car before, a discovery 2 will still need plenty of more work done besides the head gaskets. The fact they are done is a good thing but it doesn't mean that truck is problem free and worth 11.5
My wife wants me to sell our Disco so I put it up for sale for 8K knowing it will never sell at that price. I wonder if this guy is doing the same thing. If you really want my truck, you're going to have to pay for it, BIG TIME!

Ive had a lot of trouble finding them. I'm located in alabama. Ive crawled craigslist, autotrader, etc. I certainly wouldnt mind doing the mods myself

A quick search of a major city around me resulted in few 2004's. I bet if you had $5K cash when you went to look at these trucks you could drive one of them home:

-2004 Land Rover Discovery - $6K 100K miles
-04 land rover discovery- $6.3K 150K miles, "head gaskets, cooling system and $2,500 of work just done"

If you aren't set on a 2004 and you have $11.5 to spend on a Discovery then I would personally buy really cheap one that needs an engine and rebuild that sucker from the ground up. Buy a truck for under $1,000, spend $4-$5K on completely rebuilt long block with top hat liners, then you have another $4-6K to spend on steel bumpers, lockers and gears, HD drivehafts, and a lift. If you want it to look like a 2004 just add the 03-04 headlights. Sell the old engine for 500-1000 and you have some more cash to play with.

Way too many miles for the price unless he's got a remanufactured block in there

I used to live in atlanta. bought 3 discos while i lived there, never paid over $4k.

That guy is just trolling for an uninformed buyer. Take a pass. Unless you found one of these with all the goodies and a fresh motor with paperwork less than a week old, save your cash.

i think one of the best parts of a disco is that you can get them cheap, mod them easily, and they look great.

I think it depends.
If the truck was completely gone through, 11.5 would be fairly cheap. A brand new cannibal v8 with performance cam is going to cost 7k installed.
I'd pay 11.5 for an '04 if it was "finished". I have way more than that in parts alone on my '04 D2. But my definition of finished includes new calipers, pads, front driveshaft, new engine, new tires, quality 2" lift and suspension.
Then again I just paid 500 bucks for a really clean '03 with a dropped sleeve, so ultimately it all comes down to your interpretation on what you want from your D2

That is what I am asking for mine with a complete engine rebuild (top hats, etc), metal bumper, front drive shaft and an easy 9.5 outta 10 in and out.

James at Finneys orders all his stuff from me. He is a straight shooter and knows what he is doing.

You also have to factor in the time and labor of sourcing and putting said items on the truck.
