Front pump, 1 of the multiple bearings in the transmission or tranfercase, torque converter.

I'll make a video tonight so you can hear the whine. Reading some other stuff that says a whine is normal. Guess I need to know how loud of a whine I should be hearing. I appreciate the help. Hopefully its either a clogged tranny filter or common rover noise. Damn I hope.

crap man.
If you move the selector to "N" on the transfer case and put it in "D" on the transmission - of course you will hear gears in the transfer case spinning.

Good way to burn it out.

That "N" on the transfer case is for getting your Rover towed when it is in trouble.

Not for toying with.

You should only be in the transfer case "N" for a short blink of an eye when you are going to "L" from "H" or the other way.

You never leave it in "N" unless you are being towed.

I didn't keep it in long, as it was done by mistake when I couldn't get the selector to go into 4H from being in 4L. Any way, mystery is seemingly solved. I drained my front differential and metal flake city. Some decent sized flakes too. Gonna take it back to the little lot I got it at and see if they will do something. Either put me in another vehicle, or handle the repairs. I doubt they will do either.

Did you refill and see if the noise was still present?
