Default Window ECU override?

I own a 97 EDC Discovery and my rear windows does not function.

I checked all the wires that goes into the ECU and found out that the main wire that should be +12V that goes to the rear windows does not output a +12V.

is it possible to override this wire by cuting it from the ECU and connecting a straight +12V to it?

Has anyone done this before?

(I opened the ECU and could not find any broken soldering)

did you check the wire with it plugged into the ecu or out?? if you can check it with it plugged in it should have 12v, and yes you can run a jumper wire to MAKE it work, if you do not want to spring for the new ecu which is what i recomend if it is found to be the part at fault

I checked it with the wire plugd into the ECU.

have you are anyone you know tried to override this wire?
Should i just connect a +12V to it or should i plug it out of the ECU and then connect the +12V?
Do you know of any more use of the ECU in the Rear windows? why do i need it?

i override it to make sure that the ecu is at fault... do it quite often but what i would suggest is to find a wiring diagram and find out exactly y you dont have the 12v there... but again you can do it but if you do it make sure you fuse it just in case

i believe the ecu also controlls the safety switch just in case you are rolling up the window and someones head, hand foot etc is in it, it will roll back down..

Rob, remove the window lift ECU. Take the cover off. Most likely you will see a crack in the circuit board solder. Fire up your iron and connect it again.

Let us know the outcome.

I guess im [sm=lame.gif]

I'm a bit embarrassed to say but I could not plug one of the plugs off the ECU.
I worked on it for 3 hours, 2 of my right hand fingers are bleeding like @#$ and the plug wont come out.

So no more playing with that plug for me. I'll override it and let my fingers heal. [sm=smiley4.gif]

I thought of letting you all know what happen in the end.
I went to this LR electric specialist who pulled the plug in like 2 seconds, he then changed the ECU to a "new" one which didn’t work, so I told him I read that it is possible to weld it. So we did and plugged it back in and so far so good – it all works.
He charged me around 15$ for the job, and I learned how to plug it out and weld
