Windshield Replacement

Windshield Replacement
I have a small (dime size) chip in my windshield. Was there when I bought it. The shop I talked to said since it is in the "field of view" (meaning anything on the drivers side) they won't repair it, I have to buy a new one. The price they quoted me is $450 installed, including tax. Here's what I'm curious about... he said that I have to replace the top moulding ($125) because it can't be re-used. I searched the forums and found no mention of this and most saying they were charged $200-$350 for a replacement window. He also said that they won't come out and replace it. This has to be dropped off at their shop. I'm sure they have their reasons, but does the moulding really have to be replaced?

You have to replace the top molding according to the glass guy that did mine (geico paid). He said when they get the window in it comes with that piece plus the rivet for the side cowls (their system orders those parts automatically or something like that). Get an aftermarket windshield from safelight and then call your insurance and add comprehensive glass. It it pretty cheap and there is no deductible usually.
Or... If you are broke get an epoxy kit and try to fix it yourself. Obviously not the best idea and maybe even a bit dangerous but hey there are those here that recommend bypassing the throttle body heater which is also risky.

Right now, it's small enough it doesn't affect my view, but in time I know it will get worse. I'll look into one of those DIY kits and see if it's for me. I haven't called safelite because the last time I needed a windshield replaced on my '92 Prelude, they quoted me $600 Had a local shop do it for $200. So I figure if this guy is $450, I can only imagine what safelite would want
