Default Word to the wise on Sport Mode

Most people do not have a ScanGuage II mounted to thier steering wheel shroud, but I do. I noticed my rpms shifting high while city driving. Like 3200rpm to go from 2nd to 3rd and 4th. Thought what the heck is going on. Meanwhile my vision to the bottom part of my instrument cluster is blocked by my ScanGuageII. Sure enough I though about it for awhile after I looked to see if there was any fluid leaks from the Trans. Nope just hit the Sport mode button when reaching in my Glove compartment. I thought I would pass this along to the new Discovery owners. Also your MPG will go to about 9 if you drive around the city like this. It has happend before but has been some time. Sport Mode is nice for dropping the hammer when you want to pass someone, but I otherwise rarely use it.

That's interesting. I haven't had my Discovery for very long but I found that the transmission seemed to do a lot more shifting up/down when NOT in Sport mode. It's actually a bit annoying to have it hunting around for the right gear all the time so I've left Sport mode on and that seems to have helped.

Last week a did a transmission fluid and filter change as part of baselining the truck and haven't tried it in normal mode yet. The fluid wasn't awful, but maybe it'll make a difference.

Lol I have done that, hit it by accident and the scan gauge blocked my view of the dash icon

Isn't "Sport" mode on a Disco a oxymoron?

i use sport mode on steep or long hills. reduces the number of shifts as it holds gears longer

Oh that is why my gas mileage is so bad! Oh, wait, sorry, it's just a land rover. I also appreciate it when I want to hear the engine roar, but I figure that costs me about a dollar a roar. SO WORTH IT. I don't use it.

Boss--Maybe mine has already dropped it's hammer, probably while doing the headgaskets, I don't think I have a hammer to drop any more.

Haha I used sport mode the other day when tornado's were reported touching down in the area. Gas mileage was not an issue at that point in time.
