My 1997 land rover discovery (SE) is driving like crap! It has been fine... for about a month - I drove it this morning- it drove perfect. I parked it in my yard all day until about 6:30 this evening, started it up, it drove like I was running on maybe 2 cylinders! Check engine light comes on, it says P1316 (random misfire) It started when going between 15 and 30 mph- now its all over the mph map- and the rpms seem high too. Please help. I love this truck, but I am sick of her cheating on me.

It doesn't take a WTF to get an answer from this group.
The 1316 also states excessive emissions along with the misfire, so have you checked the most common problem, your plug wires and or plugs? How old are they, are your plugs wet or discolored? How many miles on your truck?

109 thousand, my mechanic had been away on vacation- it is over for its oil change by 250 miles. my wires and plugs were changed in march, as for wet, or discolored, i am unsure but am going to see about that today. im sorry about the wtf mike, i have had so many of those moments with this truck its not even funny- remember my electrical issue?? thanks for you help again.

 

I would still look at the plug wires, go out this evening start up the truck in the dark and look for sparks from the wires to the engine, wiggle them a little.

I would pull each spark plug and check them for discoloration or if they are fouled. Could be plug wires as well. Could be bad plugs, bad wires, bad coil packs, a faulty transfer case vehicle speed sensor, or sticking valves. Maybe a bad head gasket as well....

When you figure it out, let us know.

Hi guys, yeah so it would appear that I had cheap plugs- not my doing, but LR service center I used once. All have been changed. It is running wonderfully, thanks again.

 

Glad it was something simple (and not expensive). I run Platinum plugs which work better and have longer life...

Funny I had the EXACT same problem a few weeks ago. What's with that? Mine was bad wires though.

I know why, and all of you are going to say yup, this chicks nuts- but heres MY reasoning- I test drove a honda hybrid- no real intentions, but alas I did and when I left, thats when she started to act up... Did you test drive a honda??

 

You are nuts. Hehe, no I didn't test drive a honda, if I did'nt need to tow or off-road much I would SO get either the Honda or Toyota Hybrid. Did you like them?
