Default Yet another engine cooling question

So my Disco 2 runs around 204 to 208 while driving but will run to 212 to 215 at idle . I can put it in neutral and rev the engine to 1200 rpm or so and the temp quickly drops back to 206 or so. Ive checked the
bleed several times in the morning and no air appears to be in the system. The radiator is fairly new as well. Im thinking water pump impeller may be about shot. Any thoughts? 75k on the original WP.

Nah, that sounds normal.

Think about it -- the impeller on the WP spins faster which circulates the coolant more. So at idle, the temps are normally higher vs driving on the fwy.

What thermostat are you running?

It’s possible that your auxiliary fan is not turning on, it should at 212 I believe, it’s possible the viscous fan clutch is bad.

I think upnto 208 is pretty normal, but I would lean towards you have anfan issue somewhere.

I glad you posted this. My disco does the exact same thing and I am always paranoid something is wrong. I’ bought a new fan clutch and tried to install it but I could not for the life of me get the clutch off. It’s a project I have to tackle later on but I think my clutch spins a little too freely.

Thanks guys, the aux fan is coming on at 212. Im running the stock tstat right now . I have a 180 tstat to install. Ill install that and see what happens. I also see no side plates between the ac condenser and the radiator....shouldnt there be one on each side to direct the air into the radiator better?

Probably the thermostat. Then fan clutch.

IF you want it to run in the 180's permanently. Do an HD fan clutch with the inline thermostat mod and brass propeller WP down the road.

When I install the new tstat is there any value in adding purple ice or water wetter to the antifreeze?
