My opinon is they look good and that would be the rack I would have gone with had I not found the one I did on craigslist.

Here is what I am thinking. A company called VanTech sells a set of three aluminum crossbars, technically a ladder rack, with gutter mounts for less than $150.00. Powder coated black, rated at 750 lbs. evenly distributed. Baja Mega Mule mounted to that. Seems like a pretty solid system at a fairly reasonable cost.

Here's my rack I was told it was custom made for a chevy van, but fit my Disco like a glove. Are those mounts similar to the company you are looking at?

Fairly similar. Gutter bases are 8 inch. Square upright, rectangular tube.

i looked at that rack in the past and decided i would find something else specific to our trucks, like an SD rack, roverracks, or what i just picked up a Garvin wilderness one that is specific to the length and width of a disco

There it is! I was looking for that on the Columbia Overland site, but it's no longer listed on there. That is one good looking rack IMO.

There was a guy shown in the Rover's North catalog a while back that had the generic square van-ladder-rack-mount setup and he did a roof-top tent setup on it. It looked kind of funny, but he didn't paint his black like you are talking about.
