The engine in my 2022 Land Rover Discovery needs to be replaced. Check engine light is on. It's riding rough. I keep getting a light saying it needs 1 quart of oil when it doesn't and ... there is metal in the oil filter. The car did not get an oil change until 40k miles and so here we are.

I'm in Los Angeles. I spoke to one shop and was quoted $18k for the rebuild with labor. It would have a 1 year warranty, but I'm told if I maintain the engine I can get 150-200k miles out of it. The car has about 55k miles on it now. FYI, Land Rover quoted me $40k for a new engine including labor - and it too only has a 1 year warranty.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to best handle this for someone located in Los Angeles? Are there any shops that would be ideal to do the work? Is the $18k price competitive? This is really my only option. Even if I could get it running well enough to sell which would be pretty evil to do to someone, I'm so underwater on my loan that I'd be out far more than $18k in the end.

I'd appreciate your non judgmental expert advice. Needless to say, this rebuilt engine will be getting an oil change every other day. Never again!

 

Try The Rover Spot in Los Angeles, they installed a remanufactured engine for me in 2021 and the engine still runs great. I paid a lot less than 18k for it and they also offer 1 year warranty. (818)504-2822 is their number.
