Constant whining noise
Hi I have a 57 plated TD4 freelander and when it gets up to normal operating temperature it starts an awful whining noise. The noise only starts when the engine is hot. My local garage thinks it is the transfer box making the noise but I’m not so sure. It must be a bearing somewhere making the noise when it gets hot. The noise is worse in low gear but still apparent when not even in gear. If I rev the engine when it is hot the noise is still there.
can anybody please confirm that it cannot be the transfer box as the whining is still there when I rev the engine in neutral. Any suggestions would be helpful as I already spent a large sum with the garage who initially thought it was a leaking pipe to the turbo. These pipes have been replaced with new ones.
