"upgrading" wheels - is it ok?

Hi All,
I'm not sure if this has been asked (I searched and didn't find any posts on it) but I'm thinking about upgrading my wheels on my 03 Range Rover from the 18 inch to 20 inch (or larger). I've been told by someone who did it to their 05 Range Rover that it drastically improved the ride.
Will this harm my RR? Any heads-up?
Thanks.

Michael, what do you do with your truck, any 4wheeling, if so how much?
If it were only for looks and you were never going off road,NEVER, then I would say, go for it.
Problem is the ride is worse to du the fact that you have little or no sidewall on those big wheels. It takes alot of side wall to help give a good ride, no sidewall, then your suspension has more load to handle and I don't believe it is a plus.
My other negative feeling about large wheels is the cost of both the tires and wheels and they don't last very long.
So, that being said, I hope I didn't pop your bubble. This is just my personal feeling based on what I want from my truck and nearly 30 years in dealers shops as a service wrter and manager.
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks Disco Mike.
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. On the hwy (non-off road) I thought it might give better handling but in terms of the ride, I thought it might be more bumpy (to put it simply). And you're right, it costs about $2500 to buy a "used" 20 inch factory wheels and tires from a private party. I'm afraid to check with the dealership as I suspect it'll be around $4k-$5k. Maybe when it's time for a new set of tires I will buy the wheels and tires from a private party. I do like the looks of the 20 inch wheels on the sport turbo.
I'd like to hear from others that have upgraded their wheels. And I'll post my experience if and when I change mine.
Thanks again for your feedback Disco Mike
BTW, I don't plan on doing any off roading...maybe some driving in the snow.

Well, good luck with your truck and for what it is worth big tires like what are used on 20" plus wheels don't handle snow.
By the way, I had a friend with many years of wheeling experience wheeling with Rovers, take his new Sport to Death Valley to run on some of his favorite trails, lost 3 tires, big tires, in one weekend
Enjoy your truck.

I have a similar question. I have a 2005 RR HSE with the OEM 19 x 8.5 wheels on it. I am looking at upgrading/buying 4 factory OEM 20 x 9.5 wheels off a 2007 RR sport. Will these fit my 2005 HSE or will modification be required? Thank you very much for your help!

Keep in mind, when you change wheel sizes you need to re-gear the drive wheels. Taller wheels w/o re-gearing make the engine lug until you come up to speed.
