I am lookingto purchasea 2000-2001 Range Rover HSE. I found a common denominator with these vehicles that all seem to be at 80,000+/-mile range and up for sale. Does this mean anything or is it just coincidence? Is there something within this mileage that I should be concerned about, mechanically etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

most were not daily drivers, usally weekend getaway'ers. (also there use may have slowed after the gas prices). also some people do get the 75k mi warrente, after they expire, they sell. i wouldent look speiifcly for a hse, some of the lower model cars, people take care of them better. *because they arent snobs that know nothing about cars*.

It seems to be a good mileage to get out of or into a rover. Price is lower for new buyer and usually paid off for old owner. I personally think HSE is better because of larger engine. But keep in mind you will need to put in some cash for service, due to previous owners reluctance to do the same. When they know they're going to be selling they stop maintaining. (not always) See look with open eyes. P.S. I LOVE MINE and am taking care of previous neglects. I just picked mone up with 77k

The previous poster is probably right... a lot of Rovers were originally weekend or vacation vehicles and got much less usage then a daily.
At that mileage and age you should be sure to thoroughly check out the EAS system. I would highly recommend spraying down the airsprings and airline connections to the EAS box under the bonnet to make sure there are no leaks. Take the EAS system through it's full paces... try each ride height in the vehicle and make sure it changes within a reasonable time period (under 30 seconds or so). Anything more is an indication of a failing EAS compressor and is an expensive fix. Check the condition of the air bags. If they are highly cracked around the base they will need replacement in the near future. If you can hear air escaping they need immediate replacement.
There are a while host of things that can go wrong. So just be prepared. Upkeep of Rovers is much higher then your average manufacturer. If you are good at DIY you can keep a Rover much cheaper. There's great documentation of just about every repair imaginable. Engines can go and have been known to go as soon as 60K... although some go 250+ with no problems. Mines at 120K and no engine problems but i've heard horror stories where replacement is 6-8K. Lots of parts are upwards of 1K
