Default 97 Range Rover HSE 4.6

My friend has a range 4.6 and blew ANOTHER head gasket! so i replaced both gaskets and put everything back in order i took off... so we go to try to start it yesterday. it took a few cranks then it started like normal then died.? i noticed that the TPS sensor connector the wire poped out, do you need that to keep the car idleing?? when you start it you have to keep pushing on the gas to keep the car alive.... i got my code scanner and got a code PO171 system too lean bank 1... i have no clue what that means..... im all out of ideas. on what the problem could be.... the damn car just wont idle. any body have any ideas??? THANKS!!

if it never actually ran for any amout of time, at least 5 minutes, after the repair, then that code was already there... yes your tps is important. fix that wire, and make sure that your intake is all hooked up and tight
