Default Can You Recommend A Mechanic In The Houston Area?

Hi. I'd welcome recommendations for a knowledgeable mechanic/shop in the Houston area.

Thanks!

Visit your local Land Rover dealer.

Thanks for your reply, Tony. However, I am looking for an independent shop. I've had some challenges with the local dealers in Houston.

Taking a Land Rover to an independent is asking for trouble. The equipment, training and experience necessary just doesn't live in the other world. Sorry.

On the Jaguar forum, a guy took his car to Pep Boys and complained about their poor work. Don't make the same mistakes.

Thats not even a fair comparison. Pep Boys sells tires and pogo sticks. Independent is just a blanket term for non-franchised shops. Not all Indy shops are created equal.

I have a current SDD, I have a T4, service information and experience to go with it, but I'm NOT a dealer.

Besides, I have seen dealer service departments that couldn't put air in a tire. Several of my customers became my customers thanks to the dealers. I have worked at dealerships and I won't say they are all bad. Lots of real good techs that used to and still do work there. But there are many "bad" dealer service centers just like there are many "good" indy shops.

If you can find a specialty shop like what i had to do (Since i own a 98 Disco and LR wont touch my truck) They are great shops and will most of the time work with you. Thought i had a front Diff leak, turned out to be the Valve cover gaskets and the oil sending unit. Yeah there prices for labor may be more expensive, but imho there just as good if not better.

Thanks, Mark! I will be checking them out. I knew there were some independent shops out there, so I appreciate the suggestion.

Tony, Thanks. I got your opinion about using the dealer loud and clear.
