Default engine light on

I bought my 94 lwb about 2500 miles ago the gentleman i bought it off of told me it does it every 2500 miles or so and to disconnect the battery to correct it. is this normal???

well that will clear the code, but it will come back cause something is wrong. On some cars if u clear it enough the computer will start to think that the problem condition is normal

It is not normal, and it would be worth while to check and see what code is being shown on your OBD1 box, I think it is under the passanger seat like on Disco's and I could be wrong. Get the number shown on the LED and get back to us.

mike thanks for the possible location to look. It runs fine and I have been driving it on the highway at 80= mph rick

Some of the older Rovers have a service light, usually a different color then the check engine light and usually set to trigger at a higher mileage, when so equipted there would usually be a relay, that is located in the pass. kick panel, that will need to be reset using a paper clip.

Before you take it to the shop, look for the code under the seat, what spend the money if you don't have to.

Mike I looked under the passenger front seat. I found the air susp box and the fuel ingition box. I unplugged the fuel iignition to pull it out. I plugged it back in and the engine light went out while the truck was running. I plan to pull the whole unit out from under seat to see if there is a code screen. rick
