Default Fixing Navigation

Hey everybody. I am looking at buying an 01 RR with 80k miles on it. The one main issue with the vehicle is the navigation. The screen is blank and the current owner doesn't know what is wrong with it. How complicated and how much expense is involved with fixing an issue like this?

Thanks
Brian

I passed on a 2000 Range that had navigation(not for the navi system, but because of the price & lack of warranty) and it too had a blank screen wheen i test drove it. When i inquired, the dealer told me it was because he had to install the navi software disk and upload it, maybe thats what your issue is. Just make sure he has the disk and dont purchase it until he uploads the software and gives the system the ok. Beyond that,i no nothing about the system, but will bet fixing it will be over $500 as the off-market GPS systems go for that much so imagine the cost of a geniuine.

See if any fellow owners have the software that you can use.

I don't know much about the nav system mostly cause my Range is lacking it..But I do know that it is very common for the lcd backlight to burn out, and it's like a $5 bulb, just very hard to get to. However, I would think a dealer would attempt that fix before selling it due to the significant resale of a Rover with the navigation vs no navigation. lol...then again I would think the same about loading the maps and setting up the system..

Worst case though, a replacement radio is rediculously expensive ($1500 from the dealer). I'm afraid to get a quote on what a new nav system would cost..

Haha yea...my thoughts exactly..theyre so expensive there's a shop that repairs em! Check out Roverville.us They repair the radios, aim for a 24hr repair time, and even sell the radios independently!

ledlover you could try dropping them an email and seeing if they have any insight on the nav system.

I took a blank screen radio out of '96 4.6 and sent it to Roverville with $185. In 3 days turn time, he had it back to me in good as
new condition - working exellent. Don't know about fixing the NAV - ask them. Bad DVD is hopefully the cause of your blank screen.

My '02 4.6's Nav/Sat system hasn't worked since I bought it 2 years ago and the dealer wants $2800 for a new Hard Drive.

I don't know of anyone that repairs these. I'm thinking of waiting a few years and then the in dash units like Pioneer etc will be under
$1000.00 and they'll fit into the OEM slot.
