Default I think my fuel pump just quit

Driving along on the freeway and just lost power. It will crank and spark but does not seem to get fuel. The traffic is too loud to listen for the pump so I will check further tonight once the tow truck comes and gets me. I will also have a fuel pressure guage to help diagnose as well if I ever get home.

I just hooked up my scan tool to it and it did not register any codes so I am thinking the pump is the culprit.

Sounds like it to me. There is possibility the injectors are not working, but you'll confirm that with the fuel pressure gauge.

Okay here is what it was. I checked the fuel pressure and there was none, checked that I had spark so I knew that the CPS was working. Changed the fuel filter and checked all the lines. I almost ordered a new pump but then thought I should check all the fuses again. I found a small hairline crack in the fuel pump fuse under the hood. Replaced it and then found the problem. The bearing on the alternator was shot and caused the fuse to blow for the pump somehow. Replaced the alternator and all is well and back on the road.

It makes sense to sit back and think about it before just buying parts.

Reminds me of the time I almost replaced all of my air conditioning pipes, the evaporator, condenser, etc. But, fixed the leak simply by tightening some bolts on the back of the compressor.

Good to hear its back on the road! and good attention to detail .

Just so you know in the future, a crank sensor can kill the fuel signal, spark signal from the coil either or both.
Glad you are back up and running.

Yes you are right, testing the spark I was able to tell at least if the CPS was working, if I had no spark I would have investigated it further but sine there was I knew it had to be somewhere else related to the pump. I had checked the fuses when I was on the freeway but it was hard to see and that is why I think I missed it the first time.

For as much crap as people give the P38 for troubles I have found that it is fairly easy to work on and not that expensive, all you have to think about and so some logical deduction.

You mean the ignition coil? Or it is something else? My car is experiencing the same problem just last night.

The crank sensor will definately kill the spark, pull a plug wire and see if you have spark, if not it might very well be the CPS.

Give us some more info on when this started, year and mileage so we can help diagnose easier.
