Default Torque Converter Noise?

On my 96 RR there is this odd sound that I mentioned in another post that I thought was coming from the transmission. A few people told me that it might be a heat shield but, turns out it was not. I had my brother rev the engine while it was in neutral with the parking brake pulled. I crawled underneath to see if I could pinpoint the noise. It turned out to be coming from the front upper part of the transmission and seems to be intermittent. Could this be the torque converter or the torque converter chain? The transmission shifts fine and all seems well when examined from an RPM and smooth shift stand point. There are now increases in RPM as it up shifts which is exactly what it is supposed to do, so I am almost ready to rule out it being the transmission. Any thoughts?

there is no chain for the t/c. it would not drive properly if there was something wrong with the t/c either. now you could have something loose, bolt, possibly cracked flexplate, or theres a chance that its your starter gear not dissengaging all the way. what kind of noise is it, grinding? rattle? these trucks had problems with the chain in the t-box slipping when the gears get kind of worn, this wouldnt be there in nuetral though. also, with this kind of milage you shouldnt be doing a stall test, power braking, if there was anytproblems with a clutch pack, you would make it much worse. anyway, id say first thing to check, if its comming from the bellhousing, would be to make sure all of the bolts for the t/c are tight, just turn the engine over by hand and put a wrench on all 4. also, if you want to see more, pull the cover behind the oil pan off, maybe youll see something

Well, now I am noticing it only when the vehicle is moving, if I rev the transmission in N or D(holding the brake) it doesn't matter, no sound, but once the car starts moving and I give it gas, the crackling starts...

For whatever reason when I crawled back underneath it to see if I could hear it again, it was gone... such a weird rover lol.

that is weird... rules out t/c though, check your driveshafts and axleshafts, see if you have any play

The front pinion seal is leaking... I am replacing the diff. fluid tomorrow and maybe that will stop it. I also have no idea how to fix that pinion. Could a breather tube be clogged?
