Question 20" or 18" tires?

Looking at New Defender and all newer SUV's seem to come with either 20 or 22 inch tires. Only off roading I do and actually do quite often is on the beaches. Always liked 18" tires and ability to air down to 16-20 pounds. How does everyone feel about airing down the 20 and 22" tires. Had a 2017 4Runner Limited with 20 inch tires and wasn't comfortable out West on some of the rocky trials. Welcome everyones opinion and really like info available on this site. Thanks!!
